IT distributor Light Edge Technologies is to distribute Stratus fault-tolerant servers in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Cape Town headquartered Light Edge Technologies says the alliance will start with immediate effect.
US-based Stratus` range of fault-tolerant servers have been resold in this country through a number of other resellers, including Intrinsic, Business Connexion, Namitech and Symetrix.
Light Edge MD Grant Poulton says the Stratus servers operate in competition with clustering technology.
"No matter how much redundancy a cluster server has, it is not fault-tolerant," he says.
Stratus claims its servers have 99.999% uptime, which makes them essential for critical applications, particularly in the telecommunications, financial, emergency services and health industries.
"Our deal with Stratus was a strategic move aimed at placing Light Edge in an ideal position to service our clients` more business-critical needs," Poulton says. "When we started Light Edge 11 years ago we were a generic distributor.
"We slowly migrated to being a value-added distributor with PC integration. Now we have reached the level of 'platform integration specialist` for mobile, desktop, conventional servers and fault-tolerant servers."
"We see Light Edge as an agile partner who has a very good platform strategy. With our greater combined value proposition, we foresee great success in our common industry segments," says Dick Sharod, country manager of Stratus SA.
