London-listed Intec Telecom Systems, a provider of telecommunications operations support systems, is expecting adjusted pre-tax profits of about lb5 million (R64.9 million) in its 2003 financial year, according to a trading update released today.
The company has strong links with SA as it has a research and development operation in Cape Town, and Telkom and MTN are among its local clients. Expatriate South Africans founded the company in the UK about four years ago. It also has clients in other parts of Africa.
Intec supplies mainly operating support systems that link in the billing systems of various telecommunications operators in order to charge out calls between each other.
"We had a particularly strong final quarter for revenues which, due to the operational gearing of the business, directly impacts the profit," says executive chairman Mike Frayne. "This, combined with continuing cost control, has increased Intec`s profitability substantially this year."
Intec will report its fourth quarter and full year results on 25 November, for its 2003 year ending 30 September.
Intec announced the acquisition of Denmark-based open source software vendor Digiquant A/S on 11 September, approximately two weeks before the end of its financial year. Digiquant is not expected to make a material contribution in the period.
