ManageEngine, the real-time IT management company, today launched two native, iOS-based mobile apps for businesses running the company's self-service password manager, ADSelfService Plus, and its Active Directory management software, ADManager Plus. The ADSelfService Plus mobile app gives end-users secure, 24x7 password self-service and synchronisation capabilities while the ADManager Plus mobile app makes Active Directory user management capabilities available to IT administrators. Designed for iOS devices, the new apps improve productivity for end-users and IT staff who must work while on the go.
In addition to the new mobile apps, ManageEngine also announced that ADSelfService Plus now supports the password management needs of enterprises running on IBM iSeries (AS/400) and HP UX-11 systems.
Mobilising ADSelfService Plus
"The era of cubicle-confined workers is almost over," said Manikandan Thangaraj, director of product development, ManageEngine. Abri van Tonder, Managing Director of ITR Technology, says: "Today, mobile workers can work from any place their smart devices can connect to the Internet. However, that work often comes to a grinding halt when mobile users forget their passwords and endure the long wait for rescue by the helpdesk. Our new ADSelfService Plus mobile app lets users fix their password issues - right from their iPhones and iPads - and regain lost access by themselves."
Enterprises that have implemented ADSelfService Plus 5.0 can install the new mobile app on end-users' iPhones, iPads and iPod touches, enabling those users to manage their passwords at any time, from anywhere - without helpdesk assistance. The mobile app also extends ADSelfService Plus' password synchronisation functionality, allowing end-users to synchronise passwords among their various accounts for on-premise IT systems or cloud apps.
While resetting their passwords, the app prompts users to choose a password that adheres to the organisation's password policy. Administrators of mixed environments can also deploy the password policy of one system over another system.
"Awesome application," said Jeremiah Cargill, CIS manager at Austin Foam Plastics. Cargill tested the ADSelfService Plus mobile app, which is now being deployed throughout his company. "Now users can reset passwords from the mobile device securely."
ADManager Plus for iOS
"The IT helpdesk team constantly strives to enable anywhere, any time access for end-users," said Van Tonder. "The new ADManager Plus mobile app ensures the team has the same advantages of working while on the go. We've already launched an Android app for ADManager Plus that offers similar user management capabilities to IT administrators. With these two apps, the IT helpdesk can be available to serve end-users 24x7," he concluded.
The new ADManager Plus mobile app can be installed on IT administrators' iPhones and iPads, converting those devices into user management tools. Through a WiFi or cellular network, the native app connects to the ADManager Plus server and provides a secure channel to the company's Active Directory. In turn, administrators can perform the following essential user management tasks while on the go:
* Reset user passwords
* Unlock locked-out accounts
* Enable or disable user accounts
* Delete user accounts
"The ADManager Plus mobile application is a great added feature to an already great product," said tester Daniel Cloete, team leader, Information Security Services at UCS South Africa. "It allows me to manage users from anywhere, at any time. This saves a lot of time, and I don't need to take my laptop with me everywhere."
ADSelfService Plus: Multi-system password management, selective password sync
Some enterprises' security or system design concerns mandate that users must have different passwords for different systems. Such a mandate increases the burden placed on any IT administrator who oversees a heterogeneous environment in which various systems are maintained in discrete silos, eg Windows, IBM and HP-Unix systems all have their own on-premise as well as cloud apps.
To address the password challenges of such heterogeneous environments, the latest version of ADSelfService Plus lets administrators provide end-users an option to choose the IT resource they wish to reset the password for, eg IBM iSeries or Active Directory. Additionally, if the administrator feels that there are a few apps whose passwords can be synchronised, she can configure the system such that end-users selectively synchronise passwords of those apps.
