Listed recruitment company Kelly Group has apparently reinstated Mthunzi Mdwaba after removing him as deputy CEO and a board director this week.

Mthunzi Mdwaba was “removed” as deputy CEO and a company director on Tuesday, allegedly because he did not get with top boss Grenville Wilson, whose shoes he was meant to fill in October.

However, late on Friday afternoon, an internal Kelly Group email was sent to staff indicating that Mdwaba's suspension has been lifted “with immediate effect pending due process”. The announcement was not, at the time of writing, made to shareholders through the JSE's Stock Exchange News .

Kelly told shareholders this week that Mdwaba had been “removed” as deputy CEO of the group, and as a board director. However, Mdwaba was still employed by the group, and is continuing in his role as CEO of Torque IT.

reported that Mdwaba's suspension was because of a personality and leadership clash between him and Wilson.

Kelly, in response to ITWeb questions about the top-level disagreements, attributed his dismissal to a “breakdown in the relationship of trust between Mdwaba and itself. This is the only comment Kelly was prepared to make, and several questions about Mdwaba's relationship with Wilson were not answered.

Mdwaba says he has not been officially notified of his reinstatement, but is happy that the “first signs of sanity are coming”. He was informed that his suspension had been lifted as a result of phone calls and SMSes from concerned colleagues, Mdwaba adds.

Kelly's public relations practitioners were not immediately available for comment.
