Medical tech impacts economy
The Advanced Medical Technology Association (AdvaMed) cited a new report by The Lewin Group to assert that the medical technology industry is a strong, vibrant, and growing part of the US economy that improves the quality of life of treated patients, reports Associated Content.
The new study says every dollar paid to a given state's medical employees produces another $1.12 in payroll for that state, while every dollar produced state-wide by a medical technology sale produces an additional $0.90 in sales in that state.
Healthcare experts have for some time been advancing the concept that the development and implementation of medical technology can be viewed as an explanation for the consistent divide between healthcare spending and national economic growth.
Agfa demonstrates solutions

The fifth PHIN conference was held in Atlanta, Georgia from 27 to 29 August 2007. The CDC (Centres for Disease Control and Prevention) invited Agfa HealthCare to participate in the event, following the HITSP/IHE (Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel/Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise) demonstrations at the HIMSS 2007 IHE Interoperability Showcase.
State and local health department representatives - including public health managers, IT staff, public and private laboratories, hospitals and public health programme staff - attended the event.
eHealth plan breaks barriers
In November 2005, governor Jim Doyle created the eHealth Care Board, aimed at taking advantage of health IT to improve healthcare quality and safety, while reducing overall costs in the system, reports Wistechnology.
The eHealth Action Plan is a key component of the governor's plan for economic development - making Wisconsin a great place to do business and enjoy good health.
The primary activities under the Action Plan include the establishment of an eHealth technology platform through adoption and use of electronic medical records and development of health information exchanges.
