Microsoft re-iterates its support for the `Industry`

Johannesburg, 20 Jun 2000

On 28 June 2000, Microsoft South Africa will host its `Industry Day` at VodaWorld, Midrand. Aimed at the finance, retail and manufacturing sectors, the event presents an opportunity for IT professionals and business decision-makers to see what solutions Microsoft and its business partners have to offer these niched industries.

The event takes the form of an exhibition and a series of presentations by Microsoft`s business partners and customers, with the key-note address delivered by Bill Smith, Microsoft`s Industry Marketing Manager for Microsoft Europe Middle East and Africa. "Managing suppliers, improving relationships with customers, leveraging new delivery channels and improving efficiency, are just a few of the challenges faced by South African organisations," says Hennie Loubser, line of business manager at Microsoft South Africa. "The business environment is very demanding and requires innovative software solutions. This event presents an opportunity for attendees to interact with `thought` leaders who will present solutions to the different industries as well as case studies from local customers who have experienced the benefits of these solutions."

Issues such as supply-chain management, customer relationship management and electronic commerce will be tailored for the finance, retail and manufacturing environments. There will be 15 exhibition stands and 12 speakers at the event, with almost 400 expected attendees. "Many events aim to showcase the `flavour of the month` type solutions. What we hope to achieve with this event is to inform visitors about what the right technology solution can do for their business and to demonstrate how Microsoft and its partners are delivering on this vision, all in the space of a day," says Loubser.

"If you are part of the changing economy and your business is faced with increased demands for efficiency with a constantly changing competitive landscape, this event will demonstrate how any vertical industry can utilise digital tools to re-invent the way they work," concludes Loubser.

Microsoft Industry Day will be held on Wednesday 28 June 2000 at VodaWorld in Midrand. The event will begin at 08h00 and run through to a cocktail event at 16h00.
