Minolta SA enters new branding era

After 30 years of distributing Minolta products in SA, Bidvest`s Minolta SA has been awarded the distribution rights for Konica Minolta business products almost two years after the merger of the two companies in Japan.

"Now that Minolta SA has been contracted to sell Konica Minolta products exclusively in southern Africa, we have the challenge of introducing a new brand to the market," says Alan Griffith, Minolta SA MD.

Minolta SA is aiming to increase its market share in every sector addressed by the Konica Minolta range of products. Griffith believes this will be possible because of the competitive products that have been the result of the merger between the technologies, research and other Konica and Minolta resources.

"The end of the Minolta brand marks the end of an era," says Griffith. "However, we look to the future with a great deal of excitement because of new products already on their way and indications from Japan of an imminent breakthrough in copying and printing technology."

The new agreement with Konica Minolta does not include an obligation to incorporate existing Konica dealers into Minolta SA, but Griffith says all proposals will be considered on their merit.

"As far as current Minolta SA customers are concerned, it`s business as usual," he says.
