MIP Wanderers gain revenge with whitewash of Media

Johannesburg, 25 May 2006

The first 2006 biannual cricket clash between MIP Wanderers and the Media saw the former regain the trophy in a whitewash of the Media team at The Oval on The Campus in Bryanston.

Spectators witnessed MIP Wanderers smash the Media`s bowlers for a whopping 310 first innings total, losing only three batsmen during the 25-over innings; after MIP Wanderers captain and AutoMate MD Michael Botha won the toss and opted to bat first. A record 24 sixes were struck during the innings. The event was hosted by MIP Holdings.

"Our goal from the moment we stepped onto the pitch was crystal clear," says Richard Firth, chairman and CEO of MIP Holdings. "Our desire for revenge for the beating we took at the last match coursed through our veins and we had no intention of revealing any weaknesses or playing nice. We wanted the victory. We needed the victory. The trophy is rightfully ours once again."

MIP Wanderers` Alan Isaacs, financial director at Southern Motor Holdings, was awarded Man of the Match for his 141, the highest score of the day. Isaacs` time at the crease saw him strike 11 fours and 12 sixes to help his team to their record-breaking total. The Media`s Deon Botes, sales and marketing director of PayCell, was Man of the Match in the previous contest for his 115.

Gareth Vincent, senior technical consultant at Automate, scored a second MIP Wanderers century, contributing an additional 18 boundaries to the total; while freelance journalist Paul Furber`s 5-0-37-1 was the best of the bowling.

"This was the third game in our series, and despite the thrashing, we look forward to the next one," says Frank Heydenrych, Media captain and executive chairman of Predictive Communications. "Relationship building is an integral part of any business. Coming together on a cricket field in friendly competition is an excellent way to build and strengthen relationships with business partners and customers alike. Having said this, the Media fully intends to reclaim the trophy in the second match of the year in November."

MIP Wanderers was made up of players from MIP, AutoMate Dealer Management Systems, Cycan and Southern Motor Holdings. The Media team consisted of players from Predictive Communications, Manufacturinghub, Joburg.org.za, and several freelance consultancies. Don Elliott, sales director at MIP, was the official umpire.

* The second game of the season is scheduled for November. Anyone interested in attending or playing can contact Frank Heydenrych on (011) 608 1700 or frank@predictive.co.za.
