Mobile search soars

Due to the increased popularity of smartphones and plans, searching from a mobile phone is gaining in frequency in the US and Western Europe, according to new data from comScore, reports Informationweek.

The research firm reports 20.8 million US customers and 4.5 million European subscribers searched from their mobile handset in June 2008 - an increase of 68% and 38% from 2007.

Google remains the dominant search provider in the mobile space, with a 60% share in all countries measured.

Verizon unveils mobile Flash

Verizon Wireless has released Dashboard, a storefront found on its phones using Adobe's Flash technology, reports Washingtonpost.

Dashboard has launched on the LG Chocolate 3, and more phones are expected to join by the end of the year, making it one of the largest mobile implementations of Flash in the US.

The platform stands alongside the carrier's Get It Now platform, and is designed so consumers can find content from Verizon's deck and mobile Web links.
