MS gets Fast
Microsoft has acquired business intelligence (BI) company Fast Search for $1.2 billion, says IHT.
The deal will give Microsoft its first search engine designed specifically for large companies, which are increasingly using so-called intelligence software to analyse their vast internal databases.
The purchase of Fast's Enterprise Search Platform line of products, analysts said, will give Microsoft a professional-level search engine to complement search software like Web engine MSN Live Search or Microsoft Search Server and SharePoint Server for small businesses.
Cognos extends wireless BI
Cognos has extended its wireless BI solution, Cognos 8 Go! Mobile, to support Windows Mobile 6 smart phones, reports Menafn.com.
According to Gartner, the enterprise mobility market is expected to grow dramatically over the next few years and the number of mobile applications deployed by enterprises to their employees will continue to grow by 30% per year through 2011 (0.7 probability).
Cognos 8 Go! Mobile is the industry's first BI solution designed to make it convenient to view, consume and interact with highly relevant performance information on mobile devices.
