Music retailer Musica has removed “offensive” HTML scripting from its site, after a consumer complained.
The offensive script indicated that the company's Web site was also an online pharmaceutical store. Anon789 complained on Hellopeter.com that the music site was offering schedule five prescription drugs online.
He, or she, says the site purports to offer drugs such as Alprazolam, Viagra, Hydrocodone and various other medications for sale over the Web, without a prescription.
Anon789 claims that this is illegal, and immoral. ITWeb confirmed the claims that Musica was the top hit for sites in SA with these keywords when a Google search was performed, and that the medicines were hidden in the HTML code.
The complainant stated: “In my opinion, this is extremely immoral. Not to mention that it is illegal to try and sell these medications without a prescription!!”
In response to the complaint, Musica customer service manager Marie Johnson says on Hellopeter: “The Musica Web site is purely a retail entertainment site. Musica has never intentionally put up information of the nature you picked up.”
Johnson says the company has removed this information from the Web site and the link in Google no longer brings up the Musica Web site. “We have also requested Google to remove Musica from all searches related to the offending term. We cannot determine when this will be actioned by Google,” she says.
The company has also embarked on the process of tightening security on its server. Musica, however, did not respond to requests for comment from ITWeb.
