Fujitsu Services has outlined its plans for Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Municipality's new billing system.
In March, Fujitsu was awarded the tender for the R46 million billing system, overtaking nine competitors.
"It is the last metro moving forward with a new billing system," explains Elvin de Kock, MD of Fujitsu Services SA.
"Although Fujitsu already has 125 other municipality billing customers, we will be deploying a new next-generation system called Promis.Net, which uses Microsoft as a platform," he says.
"We currently have three different billing systems, which is not working for us," notes Daniel Christiaan, director of revenue management and customer care for Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. "If we cannot service our customers and increase revenue, the system is useless."
After the new system goes live in March 2008, Christiaan would like to show other municipalities the benefits and help them achieve the same.
The system will also include an Internet portal where customers can check bills online.
