
Netgear intros ReadyNAS Ultra
Netgear has upgraded its ReadyNAS network-attached storage in a major form with its first Ultra devices writes Electronista.
The four-bay Ultra 4 and six-bay Ultra 6 are built for home users who want to move as much data to a network share as possible and adds an extended amount of media sharing as a result.
Both boxes can serve as remote recording space for TiVos on the network, and the spaces can be shared through Orb to be played on iPads and other iOS devices as well as Android and BlackBerry smartphones.
Hitachi debuts LifeStudio storage line
Hitachi has unveiled its latest in external hard drives, the LifeStudio family, reports CNET News.
The drives are available in desktop and mobile versions, which share a new feature: the Hitachi LifeStudio software designed to help users manage their 'digital mess'.
Hitachi bundles the software with any new LifeStudio external hard drive and it will start automatically each time a user connects the drive to a computer, be it a PC or a Mac. Apart from making data backup easy, the LifeStudio software is able to quickly find and organise digital content stored on any hard drive connected to the computer.
Oracle upgrades unified storage offering
Oracle has made significant upgrades to the Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System product line, states TTKN.
The enhancements include built-in inline data deduplication that can be combined with inline data compression, 4Gbps and 8Gbps fibre channel protocol support, multiple storage pools, and new 1TB and 2TB SAS disc drives - doubling maximum system capacity to 576TB.
The company says these features help customers dramatically reduce the costs of storing, consolidating and managing data, expand the use of the Sun Storage 7000 System product line into fibre channel storage area networks, and improve overall capacity and availability.
