NETGEAR launches wireless ADSL Modem Gateway

Johannesburg, 25 Mar 2003

NETGEAR`s recently released Wireless ADSL Modem Gateway (DG824M) is now available in SA - offering enhanced Internet access for home and small businesses that utilise ADSL Internet services.

Distributed to the channel by Duxbury Networking, the DG824M is a high-performance Ethernet gateway that integrates an ADSL modem and an 802.11b wireless router, saving desktop space and minimising the use network cables.

"The DG824M Wireless ADSL Modem Gateway is the ideal all-in-one broadband networking solution for home and offices using ADSL," comments Graham Vorster, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.

"The integration of the ADSL modem with a wireless access point, Ethernet switch, and router makes network installation and administration fast and simple."

The DG824M supports up to 253 computers - including up to 32 wireless users - with four 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports and an 802.11b-compliant wireless access point.

"NETGEAR`s DG824M also provides users with the security they need to protect them from external threats. It features key security functionalities such as a stateful packet inspection [SPI] firewall to prevent denial of service [DOS], an intrusion detection system [IDS] and Web URL content filtering," he says.

In addition, the DG824M also offers NAT with VPN (virtual private network) pass-through and auto-partitioning on each port to protect each installed computer from damaged network connections.

Compatible with Windows, Unix, Macintosh, Netware and Linux, the NETGEAR DG824M has an animated install assistant that leads the user through each step of the installation process.
