Netgear provides industry-leading switches for SMB market

The Netgear FS728TP 24 port ProSafe Smart Switch brings powerful, high-speed networking to growing businesses.
Johannesburg, 18 Jul 2007

Netgear's ProSafe 24 Port 10/100 Smart Switch is available in South Africa from Duxbury Networking.

Offering high performance, versatility and reliability to growing businesses, the ProSafe range makes sophisticated networking possible without the usually high associated costs or complexity. The FS728TP ProSafe Smart Switch features 24 10/100 Ethernet ports with an additional four Gigabit ports. The switch also enables the deployment of power over Ethernet (POE) - capable voice over IP (VOIP) telephone handsets, wireless access points and IP surveillance cameras with none of the hassles of full layer 2 and 3 switches.

"Demand is growing in small to medium-sized businesses for high-speed networking that enables the likes of VOIP and video streaming," says Graham Duxbury, managing director of Duxbury Networking. "This is the ideal solution for such customers, especially as it makes use of technologies such as power over Ethernet to drive down deployment times and the complexity of rolling out such networks."

Duxbury says the ProSafe Smart Switch FS728TP has 24 ports enabled with 802.3af POE technology. This means devices are not only connected to the network using the switch, but also draw their electrical power from the unit. A single Ethernet cable is all that is required to add a fully-powered device to the network, should that device support POE.

"The FS728TP is also highly-affordable, especially when compared to other full layer 2 and 3 switches," explains Duxbury. "Plus, it is backed by Netgear's industry-leading limited lifetime warranty."

The FS728TP features a non-blocking wire-speed architecture that delivers 12.8 gigabits per second switching capacity for maximum data throughput. In addition to an advanced feature set that includes Access Control List filtering, 802.1x port authentication, enhanced QOS for prioritisation of voice traffic, rate limiting and IGMP snooping, the FS728TP also supports SNMP for management and is optimised for use with ProSafe Network Management Software or other SNMP-based management software.

"This means the FS728TP is managed via a centralised and integrated point for all SNMP-enabled devices," adds Duxbury, "and via a simple to use, Web-based graphical user interface that can be accessed from virtually any computing platform."
