Netgear's award-winning design

Johannesburg, 21 Nov 2006

Netgear has won Japan's GOOD DESIGN award for its technologically advanced and aesthetically attractive RangeMax Next family of 802.11n wireless networking products.

Duxbury Networking, local distributor of Netgear products in South Africa, has announced that Netgear's 802.11n-draft RangeMax Next family of wireless routers has won the prestigious Japanese GOOD DESIGN award for its innovative and eye-catching design.

Currently in its fiftieth year of running, the GOOD DESIGN award is Japan's only comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system, centring on industrial products in state-of-the-art technical fields and business models that have design at their core.

Netgear codenamed the design of its RangeMax Next products as 'Monroe', with their distinctive, glowing-white glossy plastic designs, housing the most advanced wireless networking technology currently available. The family of products won in the 'Personal Computers' category at the GOOD DESIGN awards ceremony held in Tokyo, Japan in October.

"These products certainly deserve the recognition they have received," says Graham Duxbury, managing director of Duxbury Networking. "They are innovative, reliable and stylish. But the RangeMax Next family is not just a pretty face - these products also offer cutting-edge wireless networking with the fastest industry-standard speeds available and excellent range."

Being recognised at GOOD DESIGN in 2006 marks Netgear's third such award for design excellence in less than two years. Like the RangeMax Next enclosure, the Platinum II enclosure which houses more than two dozen Netgear devices won the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design's 2004 GOOD DESIGN award and achieved gold status in the Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA) programmr in 2005 - two of the most coveted design competitions in the world.

"These awards highlight Netgear's commitment to excellence in performance, user-friendliness and reliability, while aiming to achieve a stylish design," enthuses Duxbury. "To be honoured with Asia's most prestigious industrial design award is a testament to this commitment over the past 10 years. Netgear provides products which are not only technically superior, but that users are also proud to have on display."
