With IT converging on the small business environment at a rate of knots and the fact that many small businesses are run from home, homeowners are today saddled with the task of running dedicated network cabling to all offices in their house in order to facilitate the sharing of Internet connections, printers and storage resources.
"Little do small business owners know, however, in many cases there`s no need for additional cabling at all. Since all small offices and homes are equipped with electrical infrastructure, there`s already a good source of cabling at their fingertips," explains Graham Duxbury, managing director of Duxbury Networking, sole South African distributor for the Netgear range of networking hardware and peripherals.
"By using Netgear`s new range of Wall-Plugged Ethernet Bridges and Switches, the XE102 and XE104 respectively, conventional power infrastructure in any environment can become multipurpose, carrying electricity as well as networking traffic," says Duxbury.
"Nothing could be simpler," Duxbury continues. "Users simply plug a Wall-Plugged Ethernet Bridge into the electrical wall socket in each office requiring access to the network and connect the device in that room into the switch.
"If more than one device in a room requires access to the network, the user simply makes use of Netgear`s XE104 Wall-Plugged Ethernet Switch, which has the ability to connect four devices per room to the network," he adds.
"The Netgear Switches and Bridges then drive from 14Mbps up to 85Mbps traffic across the power lines, allowing for the sharing of Internet connectivity, storage resources and printers at Ethernet speeds.
"The best part about these products is, however, the price," Duxbury continues. "At a recommended retail price of R474 excluding VAT for the Wall-Plug Ethernet Bridge; and R885 excluding VAT for the Wall-Plugged Ethernet Switch, no other products come close to solving this problem as cost-effectively or simply as Netgear does.
"With the strong combination of convenience and competitive pricing, we are looking forward to an overwhelming response to these products over the coming months," he concludes.
Established in 1984, Duxbury Networking has positioned itself as a leading specialist networking distributor in the southern African channel. The company has developed solid relationships with leading vendors in the networking, interconnectivity, wireless and convergence technology environments including Enterasys Networks, HP Procurve, Netgear, Proxim and Mitel.
