Netgear's ReadyNAS Pro: 'Master of the Universe'

Johannesburg, 29 Mar 2009

The latest storage solution from networking and storage vendor Netgear has been awarded the prestigious 'Recommended' accolade from TrustedReviews, the UK's premier source for technology news and reviews.

Netgear's ReadyNAS Pro, distributed exclusively in South Africa by Duxbury Networking and its resellers, was awarded 'full marks' for performance.

The latest ReadyNAS storage product was heralded as 'master of the universe' with the reviewer describing Netgear's first six-drive appliance as delivering performance that "no other desktop NAS appliance comes remotely close to”.

When testing the product's iSCSI support, TrustedReviews was impressed by the Pro's raw read speeds of 109MB/ sec, claiming that it has had "many dedicated - and much more expensive - IP SAN appliances in the lab that haven't gone any faster than this”.

The review concludes that the ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition is "well suited to businesses" given its plentiful back-up and security features, impressive storage potential and support for IP SAN appliances.

Commenting on the review, Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking says without an appropriate solution, storing data can quickly become a headache.

“The review highlights Netgear's commitment to helping businesses optimise data storage to ensure operational success - a strategy supported by Duxbury Networking and its dealers.”

Designed for small and medium businesses, workgroups and offices, the ReadyNAS Pro comes in a desktop form supporting up to six disk drives, and three models with capacities of l.5TB, 3TB and 6TB.

It enables users to securely store, share and protect files across a LAN or WAN, guard against disk failures and grow capacity on the fly.

ReadyNAS Pro includes business-class features such as Microsoft Active Directory integration, iSCSI support, advanced Ethernet management, secure offsite replication and a five-year warranty.

“The ReadyNAS Pro is an extremely fast and affordable platform, which can solve challenges around file sharing and database applications, server and desktop virtualisation and even offsite disaster recovery,” adds Robb.
