Network Associates recently awarded Comztek distribution rights for its range of McAfee retail products. The move is an effort to ensure consumers have access to the same products and technologies that are currently available to the corporate market.

Network Associates has consistently been a dominant player in the enterprise space, through its retail products the company has made its corporate technology available to consumers.

Says Christopher Bray, Network Associates regional director of sub-Saharan Africa: "We currently enjoy a relationship with Comztek who already distribute our SMME and corporate products. Comztek has demonstrated their ability to grow in the SOHO market. Including our consumer products to their portfolio will further enhance our relationship and conclude the merging of our strategies, with a focus that includes consumers."

"One of our core competencies is distributing products into the retail market. By distributing McAffee, we are aligning ourselves with market trends in the consumer IT arena by making security products more available. We believe McAffee to be a high quality, high demand product and we look forward to expanding our relationship with the brand," commented Corlette Wessels, retail manager at Comztek.

The agreement between the companies coincided with the launch of McAfee` s updated consumer products. Included in the range are VirusScan 7.0, Firewall 4.0, Internet Security 5.0 and QuickClean 3.0.

Bray continues: "Our strategy is simple: we are the worldwide leader in anti-virus protection for businesses. We`re taking our award-winning corporate security technologies and making them available to consumers in products that are more feature-rich and better priced than what has traditionally been available in the consumer/SOHO space."

Examples of this include the enhanced security features in Network Associates` products, such as VirusScan`s Hostile Activity Watch Kernel (HAWK) that actively detects virus characteristics. Updates are automatically performed and the new script stopper feature prevents script-initiated threats that spread viruses.

Firewall 4.0 ensures hackers are kept at bay and also features hacker tracing capabilities that proactively protects users utilising the Internet. QuickClean 3.0 detects and removes spyware and unnecessary Internet clutter.
