Duxbury Networking has released the Netgear Rangemax, a dual-band wireless router targeted at online gamers, high-definition video streaming enthusiasts and small businesses looking to increase the security of large data transfers.
Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking, says the new Netgear RangeMax Gigabit router meets the requirements of many of today's wireless networks that simultaneously support multiple bandwidth-hungry applications such as gaming, video streaming, file sharing and voice-over-IP across home or business environments.
“It has become imperative for wireless networks to include features that enhance the overall consumer experience while delivering the fastest speed, highest reliability and maximum range that today's applications demand,” he says.
With a 680MHz processor, 500Mbps WAN-to-LAN speeds and 350Mbps real-world maximum wireless throughput, the RangeMax router facilitates high-speed access to a USB hard drive from any device on the network, Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) support and video quality of service (QoS) enhancement.
Winner of a 'Best of Innovations' award at the recent 2009 Consumer Electronics Show in the US, the RangeMax is one of the first consumer routers to enable media enthusiasts and gamers to run multiple bandwidth-intensive applications simultaneously, while streaming digital content to new HDTVs and gaming consoles.
Additionally, the RangeMax is the first Netgear offering to introduce broadband metering, a feature that enables consumers to accurately monitor their usage of download traffic in a given time period so they can easily stay within the bandwidth limits designated by Internet service providers (ISPs).
