Specialist distributor Duxbury Networking has released a new 5-port AV switch for home networks, the first from its principal, Netgear.
Dubbed the Home Theatre Network Switch, it connects networked TVs, DVR systems, Blu-ray players, game consoles and cable/satellite decoders to the home network and the Internet.
The new Netgear switch, capable of streaming full HD video at up to 1080p, digital music and latency-free online gaming, meets the challenge of distributing high quality HD images throughout the home, says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.
“It prioritises and optimises performance of the Internet connection to enhance networked video, digital music and latency-free online feeds from sources such as YouTube, iTunes and Xbox,” he says. “As such, it will be particularly suited to gamers and other power users.”
Users are able to assign priority to each connected device by selecting the appropriate colour-coded port. Energy-efficiency features include an automatic 'power-down' mode when ports are not in use, as well as the automatic detection of the cable length to adjust power usage.
