Details of what is believed to be the Z10 successor - and one of BlackBerry's new 10 OS - devices made their way to the Web via BlackBerry discussion forum and fan site CrackBerry yesterday.

Purportedly part of the A-Series, the new BlackBerry - which has a similar look to the all-touch Z10 - looks set to have a significantly bigger OLED screen, with an additional 0.8 inches (2cm) of display.

BlackBerry's second 10 OS device - the qwerty keyboard and touch hybrid Q10 handset - was the first of BlackBerry's smartphones to feature an OLED display. OLED - or organic light-emitting diode - is a brighter, punchier display that consumes less power, and also has faster response times and wider viewing angles.

In addition to a five-inch display screen (as opposed to the Z10's 4.2 inches), the new device is bigger in size, with dimensions of 140.7 x 72 x 9.4mm. The Z10 is 130 x 65.6 x 9mm in dimension.

Other claims, according to the online publication, are that the new smartphone will feature a 2 800mAh integrated battery, which would be longer-lasting than the Z10's 1 800mAh removable battery.

The new model is claimed to feature an 8MP rear-camera and a 2MP front-facing camera, the same amount of on-device storage as the Z10 (16GB), a faster processor (1.7GHz, up from the Z10's 1.5GHz dual-core CPU) and long-term evolution and near-field communication capability.

The operating system is penned as a slightly updated version 10.2.

BlackBerry launched its new reengineered 10 OS platform to much fanfare in January. At the time, the Z10 and Q10 were released, just less than two months apart, as the company's flagship devices.

CEO Thorsten Heins announced a third device - positioned as a mid-range phone designed for emerging markets - the Q5, at BlackBerry Live in mid-May.

Three more BlackBerry OS devices are expected to be launched by the end of the year, with the A-Series upgraded Z10 seemingly set to be number four of six.
