Three new additions to the Netgear ProSafe Plus range of Ethernet network switches have been announced by distributor Duxbury Networking.
Designed for applications in small to medium-size enterprises, they include two Fast Ethernet versions - the 16-port FS116E desktop switch and 24-port JFS524E rack-mounted switch - and one Gigabit Ethernet version, the 5-port GS105E desktop switch.
All three switches boast network monitoring, security and resource-allocation features and deliver traffic prioritisation and network segmentation functions.
“Traffic segmentation and prioritisation are key to network performance on modern networks running multiple, real-time applications,” says Andy Robb, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.
“Netgear's new line-up of switches gives users greater control over their networks using quality of service features. They can assign traffic priority based on physically connected ports or prioritise traffic by data type, such as streaming video and voice.”
The FS116E and JFS524E are marketed by Netgear as 'green' appliances, offering up to 70% less power consumption than similar devices. They feature two energy-saving modes; an auto power-down mode for use when a port is unused, and an 'auto-green' mode, which detects cable length and enables the switch to use less energy if its connections cover a distance of less than 10 metres.
