New Mexico adopts Kronos software

The New Mexico Department of Health has adopted software from Kronos, a workforce management software company, to manage all time and attendance issues for its 2 100 employees, reports Biz Journals.

The Kronos software provides the state's enterprise resource planning system with real-time, quality on time and attendance by employees to help assure greater accuracy in payroll and consistency in the enforcement of requirements, says Anita Westbrook, the department's office of facilities management, in a news release.

“Payroll is typically a state and local government's largest expense and even a slight delay or error in time and attendance can have a significant impact,” Westbrook says. “Kronos helps us rein in budgeted dollars with increased efficiency and reduced payroll errors through real-time labour information.”

HR warned of World Cup leave

The Institute of Payroll Professionals (IPP) is alerting payroll and HR departments to be prepared for an increased number of staff booking annual leave in order to watch World Cup matches, says Fresh Business Thinking.

New research by the IPP reveals one in six employees (16.3%) plan to take holiday between 11 June and 11 July to watch the World Cup.

Payroll and HR departments need to be prepared to deal with these requests and make sure there are enough staff members covering those who are on annual leave.

Firms neglect long-term HR planning

All too few UK organisations are forming long-term workforce management plans, threatening the continuity of their growth, a new report has indicated, according to Ashdown Group.

The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development has found 20% of businesses and public bodies are planning less than a year ahead where people resources are concerned.

Another 41% form strategies for between one and two years ahead, the organisation found, meaning fewer than four in 10 are paying close enough attention to their long-term staffing needs.
