A new Netgear firewall product has been launched by local distributor, Duxbury Networking. Dubbed the ProSafe Dual WAN Gigabit SSL VPN Firewall, it is targeted at small and medium size businesses (SMEs) looking to improve network security while providing reliable remote access to branch offices or telecommuters.
A key feature of the new firewall is its ability to offer users two alternative, optimally secure connections to the network. These are Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and IP security (IPsec) virtual private network (VPN) tunnels.
SSL VPN tunnels provide clientless remote access to corporate data for individual access anywhere and anytime, while IPsec VPN tunnels provide both secure site-to-site tunnels and legacy support for client-based remote access systems.
"Backed by a true firewall, the unit is an effective VPN router, providing a high-performance, SNMP-manageable, network solution with a range of benefits," says Andy Robb, CTO of Duxbury Networking.
"These include multidimensional security such as denial-of-service protection, stateful packet inspection, URL keyword filtering, logging, reporting, and real-time alerts."
Other features of the ProSafe Firewall include four Gigabit LAN ports to allow fast data transmission speeds, and two Gigabit WAN ports, which provide load-balancing and failover protection to ensure maximum throughput and reliable connectivity to the Internet.
With Network Address Translation (NAT) routing and classical routing, up to 253 users can access the corporate broadband connection simultaneously.
