Nokia Music+ is the Finnish manufacturer's upgrade to its current free mobile music , Mix , which offers more than 15 million local and international DRM-free tracks.

Nokia Music+ is an additional feature to the company's already existing free-to-stream service, Mix Radio.

The service is available exclusively to Nokia Lumia users and offers subscription-based music streaming at R25 a month. Mix Radio will remain available to Lumia users free of charge.

Head of communications for Nokia SA, Leo McKay, says the service adds some new features to its predecessor "including higher bitrate playlists, a great desktop streaming experience, lyrics for songs, and unlimited track skips and offline playlist downloads".

The launch of Nokia Music+ has placed increasing pressure on its competitors, such as streaming service Simfy, which enables mobile music downloads for a monthly subscription fee of R60 in SA.

McKay says what makes Nokia Music+ different from other streaming music services is that it enables users to listen to music offline. "Unlike other streaming services, the offline feature is great for people in countries like SA, where streaming large amounts of can be expensive."

With Nokia Music+, the company shows it is constantly working towards improving its music offerings, it says. "We feel this unique service adds even more differentiation to the Nokia Music story. Music is one of the key usage drivers for modern smartphones and, as a result, having the best music offering is important for Nokia," notes McKay.

Nokia Music+ will be available for people to try free for seven days.
