The National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (NUMSA) has had its Web site completely overhauled to make it more accessible to its 180 000 members.
The updating of the site, which features a new database-driven content, document and user management system, is the first stage of NUMSA`s plan to use the Internet as an affordable means of communication for the organisation and future member services in years to come.
The site features updates on breaking local and global metals industry news, as well as a more general news section. NUMSA says these news sections will play a pivotal role in the upcoming 7th National Congress in September, where regular updates will be posted live from the venue.
Navigation of the site has been kept simple to make it accessible to even the most novice of Internet users. The site contains 'how to` articles regarding searching, downloading files and interactivity functions in the 'site help` section.
There is also an archive section that gives users access to all the National Congress meetings over the past 15 years, as well as all NUMSA newspaper and magazine publications.
Visitors to the site are able to subscribe to a newsletter that will keep them informed of important announcements and developments.
Development of the new site was tasked to Internet Solutions company Prefix Technologies.
