Oracle SA and Obsidian Systems have formed a partnership aimed at raising awareness of the advantages of Linux and co-developing new products to meet customer needs.
Bev Scott, Oracle ISV channel manager, says the partnership`s strength will lie in the formation of strategy, building relationships, and market education. "Where the industry has been slow to digest the viability of Linux solutions within Oracle offerings, the Obsidian partnership is expected to raise awareness of the advantages of Linux."
"Oracle`s partnership with Obsidian will allow us to keep our expertise where it should be - focused on deploying," adds Scott. "It will also enable us to co-develop new products based on customer demand."
Nols De Wet, Obsidian marketing director, says through the new partnership with Oracle and other similar partnerships, Obsidian will start positioning Linux as a viable alternative in an overtraded software market.
"The relationship with Oracle is an important one for us because it provides an excellent foot into the enterprise market on the business applications side," says De Wet. "We have the local skills to support all the major Linux distributions and this partnership further enhances our position as a leading Linux solutions provider in South Africa."
