Partnership to drive smart healthcare

Huawei Technologies has collaborated with the University Centre Groningen (UMCG) in the Netherlands to increase its cooperation in the area of smart .

It was announced at the 2015 Huawei Cloud Congress, in Shanghai, that the organisations had signed a memorandum of understanding, which will see Huawei offer communications solutions for of health services to UMCG.

According to Huawei, the partnership aims to use ICT to cover and track hospital facilities and patient traffic, to improve early signalling of hospital infectious diseases, which will cut down on medical costs in the future.

"This opens the door for UMCG to partner with a global player like Huawei. With its worldwide resources and innovative technological platforms, Huawei can help us further strengthen our leading position in the Netherlands and Europe," said UMCG vice-chairman of the board, professor Folkert Kuipers.

"We are delighted UMCG has chosen Huawei to explore how smart healthcare and smart hospital concepts can offer more options to its staff and students, who will after all become the clinical experts of the future," added Leon He, president of Huawei Western Europe enterprise business.

The city of Groningen in the Netherlands aims to improve the quality and intelligence of its residents' lives by enhancing healthcare, public safety, urban services, environmental protection and business activities.
