Payroll data stolen

A UK government notebook computer containing payroll as well as personal information on 10 000 UK National Health (NHS) staffers, has been stolen from a in Cornwall, says Computerworld.

The payroll data, including names, addresses and bank details, was stolen from locked and alarmed premises, which were forcibly broken into during the early hours of 1 May. The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust hosts the payroll for NHS staff across the county.

Security experts warned that relying on password protection and locking away laptops was "not enough" to protect sensitive data.
