Online retailer PCMall has changed hands and now wants to be the top computer reseller on the Internet in SA.
The company, which belonged to Titan5 Holdings, has been sold to Jerome McClement for an undisclosed amount. The deal became official towards the end of last year, but has only just been announced, as the company first wanted to redevelop the back-end.
McClement says PCMall, which competes in the same space as Kalahari.net and Digital Planet, has redesigned its Web site. He explains the new site allows people to search for specific requirements, such as pink notebooks, and then compare different products.
This search functionality is unique to PCMall, says McClement. He says no Web site in SA has previously allowed people to compare products against each other.
“Hours of testing, along with the help of a vast amount of consumer feedback, has allowed us to build a site that will appeal to a broad spectrum of Internet users,” says McClement.
Wider range
The site lists a number of different filters for each product range, McClemont explains. The shopper can then choose how they would like to view each item and gradually filter them down until they are left with a handful of choices that would meet their needs.
With the new search function in place, McClement says the site has seen its unique user hits increasing, and sales are on the rise. By the end of the year, he expects to be the number one online retailer of computing products.
Within the next few months, McClement says the company will launch several new portals that will offer other products and services, such as books and DVDs. PCMall will eventually take on Kalahari.net with these offerings. “We're taking on everyone eventually,” McClement says.
Ryan Kahan, who has led Titan5 Holdings for the last decade, says: “It has been tremendously rewarding having the PCMall.co.za brand associated with us for the last six years, but it is now time for us to refocus on new opportunities with the Titan5 Holdings group.”
Titan5 is focused on providing voice quality and recording services to the corporate sector. In anticipation of the sale, the company placed McClement as the MD of the division in November last year.
