Peribit launches AppFlow

Peribit Networks has released AppFlow, its application flow acceleration technology, to increase the performance of Microsoft Exchange, file services and Web-based applications over wide area networks (WANs).

" consolidation is a key cost saving for many IT departments, and although it delivers savings in terms of hardware, it does not solve the problem of latency and the resulting slow application response on WANs," said visiting Swiss-based Peribit engineer Gilles Trachsel at the local AppFlow launch in Sandton this week.

Trachsel cited Gartner research findings as saying at least 98% of networks that do not address the issue of protocol latency will fail to meet the service levels required by mission-critical applications.

"The AppFlow technology enables users to consolidate and centralise servers while maintaining application performance on the WAN normally associated with local area networks (LANs)," said Mike Hamilton, GM of South African Peribit distributor, Channel Data.

"IT is under pressure to provide LAN quality application delivery throughout the distributed enterprise," he observed.

Trachsel said Peribit`s AppFlow technology was aimed at merging business needs of reducing costs with IT needs of meeting service levels by combining specific application acceleration with general transmission control protocol (TCP) acceleration to eliminate latency problems.

"AppFlow provides the acceleration needed for applications that cannot benefit from TCP acceleration until their specific protocol limitations are removed," said Hamilton.

"Peribit is now able to address the four key areas of compression and caching, application control including bandwidth management, network visibility and effective application acceleration to deliver a full WAN optimisation solution," said Trachsel.

"WAN optimisation is no longer just about compression and hardware savings, but includes application performance and user satisfaction," emphasised Hamilton.
