Preparing SA for the new style of IT

In the face of revolutionary change in IT and business, HP is gearing up to help South African enterprises ride the new waves, starting with HP World South Africa 2014.

"Massive change is coming in the IT space, and we are not talking pie in the sky stuff," says Rudie Raath, HP South Africa's CTO. "The IT landscape is undergoing the most radical change it has seen in the last decade, and by 2020, it will look vastly different. Where the world id challenged in dealing with 4 ZetaBytes of complex data today, it will have to grapple with a 40 ZetaByte problem by 2020."

Big data, cloud, and are the major catalysts for change and are the four pillars of HP's New style of IT methodology, says Raath. Now, traditional IT silos are breaking down and IT solutions and management are overlapping, forcing enterprises to radically redesign their operations to enable them to view and manage their IT in a holistic way. "IT is no longer product-centric, now it has to be solution-focused," says Raath.

Raath notes that HP has adapted its go to market strategy in line with this changing environment, to help its channel take more comprehensive solutions to market, and ultimately help customers take control of the new demands being made on IT. Under the banner 'Make IT Matter', HP now brings servers, storage and networking together into the converged infrastructure, delivers solutions to harness big data and mobility potential, and helps enterprises to capitalise on the new style of IT through the converged cloud.

The changes within HP are designed to prepare enterprises to meet the demands of Enterprise 20/20, when advanced and agile IT is at the heart of every successful enterprise. In its Vision 20/20, HP predicts that IT needs to become hyper-focused on innovation and offload everything that might distract from this goal. The global demand for IT talent will become fierce, says the forecast. Sensors will rightly be seen as the 'central nervous system of the earth' and data management and security will be of paramount importance.

What this all means for South African enterprises, their CIOs and IT departments will be the focus of the upcoming HP World South Africa 2014 conference and exhibition, to be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on 13 May.

The event, which brings to South Africa the most important insights from the global HP Discover events, is set to prepare local business and IT executives to meet the challenges facing them as they head toward the 2020 IT environment. Up to 1 000 C-level decision-makers at the event will get in-depth analysis and practical on key trends and challenges, including the reinventing of the cloud, how to fight back against cyber criminals, the role of wearables in Internet of Things, and how connected intelligence can streamline business and improve profitability.
