ProCurve Networking by HP has unveiled its 8212zl high-performance core switch, aimed at the enterprise and SME markets.

Speaking at Gitex Technology Week in Dubai, ProCurve Networking by HP's VP and GM John McHugh said the switch is part of a standards-based unified core-to-edge solution. It delivers low cost of ownership and reduces complexity by making use of common components, he noted.

McHugh said although the switch has enterprise capability, it is affordable for SMEs too, allowing them access to technology previously beyond their financial reach.

"The switch also comes with a lifetime warrantee, that features standard next business day advanced replacement with phone and e-mail support."

According to McHugh, the 8212zl lets customers take advantage of a comprehensive network platform optimised from the core to the edge, across both wired and wireless networks. By sharing the platform architecture, modules, accessories, software and management tools with ProCurve's 5400zl series, the new switch lowers a company's costs and improves platform flexibility, he added.

"Network managers can take advantage of common networking, security, quality of service and resiliency features, in an integrated, programmable and flexible architecture, to simplify operations."

Instead of point technologies with vendor or platform-specific idiosyncrasies that result in complex and unproductive management, the ProCurve system's deployment and code image management and maintenance are unified, he said.
