RFID kits available
ThingMagic, a developer of RFID technologies, has announced a variety of different RFID kits available for purchase from its Web site, says RFID News.
The kits, called M5e-Compact, Mercury5e, and Mercury4, are designed to meet the non-traditional RFID needs of customers in a low-cost and user-friendly solution.
Each kit consists of RFID reader software and hardware for testing and developing embedded, mobile, portable and handheld RFID devices.
More smart cards than people?
New research has found that by the end of next year there will be more smart cards than people occupying this planet, reports Security Document World.
IMS Research's latest report on the smart-card market projects that the installed base of smart cards is forecast to surpass the world's population during 2009.
From relatively humble beginnings in 1983, it has taken 25 years for the smart-card installed base to approach the level where, on average, everyone has at least one, IMS said.
Bar-code scam leads to arrest
A man has been jailed for using homemade bar codes to get fraudulent discounts on department store goods, says ABC News.
Australian police arrested Edward Imre Podolak, 37, as he tried to buy his fourth coffee machine with a false bar code at Tea Tree Plaza shopping centre.
They uncovered stacks of fake barcodes in his wallet and car and $25 000 worth of goods at a caravan park at West Beach where he was staying.
