Rwandatel migrates core network
Rwandatel migrated to a GSM and 3G network for its mobile telephony, replacing its CDMA platform, reports Cellular News.
LapGreen Networks, a subsidiary of the Libyan African Investment Portfolio, owns 80% of Rwandatel. Earlier this year, the company signed a $35 million deal with Huawei Technologies to revamp its landline network and replace its public switched telephone network with a 3G network.
Rwandatel will now be able to offer its subscribers superior quality convergent services in mobile, fixed and Internet telecommunications.
ITC heavies develop Kenyan WiMax
Global ITC giants Intel and Alcatel-Lucent have teamed up with local firm Kenya Data Networks (KDN) to develop a WiMax network, says Capital Business.
Intel chairman Craig Barrett, who was on his first visit to Kenya, reported the deal, saying the technology would encourage the country's social and economic development.
The pilot project will be the first in Kenya to use next-generation WiMax 802.16e technology, better known as mobile WiMax, which is widely considered an ideal solution for providing high-quality wireless broadband services at an affordable cost.

This came to light during the Customer Service and Contact Centre Conference for West African countries, organised by Aitec Africa in partnership with Huawei.
The Lagos conference was a follow-up to the initial workshop held in Nairobi, Kenya, two weeks ago, where African nations were urged to address shortcomings in technology.
