India-based Planet Technologies has launched a Web-based project management system, which it says has two main advantages over competitive products for the South African market.

"Project Plextra is particularly well-suited to the local market because it was developed according to working experience gained in a leading local and several large South African companies," says Vadivelu TT, Planet Technologies CEO and product architect.

"Project Plextra also offers enterprise-level project management tools to the South African market at a much lower price than competitive products because of the low development costs in India," adds TT. "The cost per user is typically a third of similar products from large software companies."

Project Plextra includes functionality to view resource availability, store all messages relating to a project in a single repository for easy , organise workflow, receive based on customisable tolerance levels and track project progress through a real-time dashboard view.

TT says unlike most other enterprise project management applications, Project Plextra has a built-in performance evaluation facility and offers process management that enables project managers to refine processes based on knowledge collected through the duration of projects.

"Project management is mostly about delivering a project on time and within budget, but process management deals with identifying problems to help improve business processes," observes TT.

Having established a small client base in India, TT says Planet Technologies is seeking partners to branch out to other markets. "In addition to the product being well-suited to the market, we are starting in SA because this market is known for being receptive to new products and technologies."
