Local IT players are to stage a South African spam summit in Johannesburg on 22 October.
The event, organised by Systems Publishers, arose out of a public challenge issued by Matt Newnham, software product manager at Camsoft Solutions, on Business Focus on SABC3 in July, shortly after the spam summit held in the UK.
The organiser says 72% of respondents polled recently via MarketingMix found spam to be more problematic than viruses or hacking threats, while 68% of the corporate IT directors and management readers of Computerweek Strategist indicate spam is more of a problem than viruses or hacking.
