Multinational technology giant Samsung has introduced KNOX, a platform solution that addresses the dangers that go hand-in-hand with the bring your own device () phenomenon.

Unveiled at the Samsung Unpacked event, in Berlin this week, KNOX has been touted as a "comprehensive enterprise mobile solution for work and play".

According to Samsung, the growing use of smartphones in business has driven the need for a solid mobile security solution for enterprises, without compromising the privacy of employees.

KNOX addresses platform security with a "three-pronged " to secure the system: Customisable Secure Boot, ARM TrustZone-based Integrity Measurement Architecture, and a kernel with built-in security enhancements for Android access controls.

In terms of applications, KNOX's container provides security for enterprise data by isolating enterprise applications and encrypting enterprise data, both at-rest and in motion.

The solution works with most mobile device management vendor solutions.

Samsung says KNOX incorporates key technologies patented by the National Security Agency to protect the operating system and applications.

"KNOX has been submitted to the US Government and Department of Defence for compliance with initiatives, requirements and standards for mobile device security."

This will enable its use in government and other highly-regulated enterprise environments.
