While other brands are embracing more compact tablet devices, Samsung has unveiled a 12.2-inch Galaxy tablet.

The consumer electronics giant unpacked the Galaxy NotePRO, at its Samsung Forum, in Malaga, Spain, yesterday.

According to Paulo Ferreira, head of enterprise at Samsung Electronics SA, the move to make a larger tablet was motivated by the brand's desire to help consumers to do more on a single device. "We believe that a large screen experience will make our customers more productive," he said.

Describing it as the ultimate multitasking device, Ferreira noted consumers can now view four windows at once on the device's WQXGA display.

The NotePRO comes preloaded with Cisco's WebEx Meetings platform, which allows business users to share documents and conduct meetings using their tablet. When using the E-meeting feature, multiple users can access the same content and give their input at the same time. This feature boosts productivity and team work, according to Ferreira.

"We have all experienced instances when you are sitting somewhere with your tablet and need to get something off your PC. That is where Remote PC comes in." Via Remote PC, users can access files on their PC from their tablet. The tablet also houses Samsung's S Pen stylus, Ferreira added.

Samsung has enhanced the WiFi standard on this device, using an ac MIMO system, which combines WiFi connectivity with a 3G or 4G connection. For Ferreira, this feature is of particular relevance to African consumers where connectivity can be an issue.

"But one size doesn't fit all," he said, adding that the brand is also debuting the 8.4-inch Tab PRO and the 10.1-inch Tab PRO.

Outlining the features of the tablet range, Ferreira said the devices will feature Samsung's Knox security solution, which locks down each layer of the Android operating system. "The bottom line is this: software security only works if the hardware and system integrity is guaranteed."

In line with this, the Knox Container ensures the safety of a user's information by keeping personal and sensitive business information in separate compartments. "This means that users can safely have one device for both work and play," he continued.

The Samsung Galaxy NotePRO and TabPRO tablets will be available globally during the first quarter of 2014.
