Leading business solutions company, SAP Africa partnered with Duxbury Networking for the successful upgrade of its LAN (local area network), which now features powerful connectivity - running at Gigabyte capacity.
Implemented recently at the company`s offices in Johannesburg, Gauteng, the Enterasys-based LAN adheres to SAP`s global IT guidelines and standards.
Explains Leathem Sleith, IT manager of SAP Africa: "It was a basically a new installation; we literally redid the entire LAN - pulling out everything, rewiring and implementing new equipment."
Elaborating on the reasons for the upgrade, he says: "Essentially, we reached a stage where our current infrastructure wasn`t able to support growth within the company. Also, we weren`t using the latest technologies and configurability that are available - we needed Gigabyte connectivity."
Duxbury is an official Enterasys distributor for SA and played a key consulting role during SAP`s pre-deployment and infrastructure planning processes.
"SAP explained to us what their requirements were and we recommended the products they needed to successfully roll-out the LAN," says Graham Vorster, chief technology officer at Duxbury Networking.
SAP took approximately four days (over a long weekend) on a very tight schedule to change over to the new LAN, which entailed installations in the company`s main computer room and five other LAN rooms.
"We gave Duxbury a stiff deadline, but received all the equipment on time which was quite an achievement as they had to work under immense pressure to obtain all of it in such a short time.
"And what`s even more, during the physical implementation we experienced some out-of-the-box problems, but Duxbury came to the party and immediately replaced the faulty parts," says Sleith.
