SAS shows top growth

SAS has again outpaced the business intelligence (BI) tools market with 16.6% growth in BI tools revenue in 2007, says Bob's Guide.

This percentage represents the highest market share growth rate of the top five BI vendors, according to the recently issued IDC report titled 'Worldwide Business Intelligence Tools 2007 Vendor Shares: Query, Reporting, and Analysis, and Advanced Analytics Markets Stable in the Face of Economic Turmoil'.

For the 11th consecutive year, SAS holds the number one worldwide market share position among all advanced analytics software vendors.

SAP hires new staff

SAP is focused on building its Business Objects presence in New Zealand, hiring two experienced BI experts to drive growth, says The Scoop.

Steve Cox and Carl Harris join SAP as business development manager and solution architect - Business Objects, respectively.

Richard Syers, New Zealand sales director, says that the company is investing in a team dedicated to driving uptake of SAP and Business Objects' joint product offerings, which enable business-wide operational intelligence and insight to improve performance for customers.

IBM releases BI for Linux

Cognos announced the availability of IBM Cognos 8 BI for Linux software on System z, IBM's brand name for its mainframe computers, says eChannel Line.

"We saw an increasing demand for solutions on the mainframe," said Jennifer Hanniman, senior product marketing manager for the Cognos 8 platform.

She added that customers are looking for solutions on the mainframe for a couple of reasons. The first is they want to reduce the cost and complexity in their infrastructure and look at mainframes as a potential platform to standardise for things like green initiatives within the IT organisation.
