SEI to provide operations outsourcing

AlphaOne Capital has selected SEI to provide a complete outsourcing solution, including middle- and back-office services, for the firm's portfolio of investment products, says Al Bawaba.

AlphaOne, an equity money management firm, sought to outsource its back- and middle-office functions as a means of achieving greater infrastructure transparency, flexibility, and scalability, without tying up critical internal resources.

SEI will host and maintain the firm's order management system. Services also include full business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities. AlphaOne will receive comprehensive management, performance, and reporting for all back- and middle-office services provided by SEI via SEI's online manager dashboard.

Computing outsourcing centralises data

The stampede to outsource computing into the cloud has some interesting consequences. Rather than further distributing computing, it's actually centralising much of the data, and more importantly, the control of that data, says Forbes.

The whole argument for the client/server era of computing was that it moved computing closer to the user, distributed the processing and provided universal access to corporate data that used to be regulated by IT departments.

By allowing multiple applications and operating systems to run on a single server, utilisation goes up and the number of servers goes down. And by outsourcing some of the servers for non-critical applications - or setting up private clouds for critical apps - the number can be reduced further.

Government outsources to Wipro

Wipro Infotech, a provider of IT and business transformation services, has won a turnkey project from the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) in India, the Ministry of Finance, and Union Government, reports Business Standard.

As part of the project, Wipro would implement a financial intelligence network for FIU.

The scope of services includes development of portal, data warehousing, deduplication, analytical application and ERP implementation at the data centre and disaster recovery site.
