Sentech is proud to announce the appointment of Beverly Ngwenya as its Chief Operations Officer. At just 34, Ngwenya has become an industry expert with exposure to major industry brands - Eskom, Vodacom and MTN.

Starting out at Eskom (1996 to 1997) as a telecommunications engineer, following a year in training, Ngwenya was involved with the migration of 1.5GHz and 1.8GHz to frequency bands above 8GHz, which constituted South Africa's Band RE-plan project.

She moved on to Vodacom in 1998 as a BSS engineer in the radio engineering department, establishing herself as a key player in both technical and business spheres. As a senior engineer in 2001, she reported to the deputy CEO of Vodacom in her capacity as a representative of the GSM Africa Secretariat, adding organisational and presentation skills to her responsibilities.

As the GSM Technical Support Manger at Vodacom International Holdings (2004), her involvement with CAPEX activities added to her growing knowledge and experience on a wide variety of GSM operations.

Having spent the last two years at MTN (Zambia) as the Chief Technical Officer and the year prior (2004 to 2005) with MTN Group as the Regional Technical Manager, she was responsible for strategic supplier management, managing technology acquisitions through procurement, and CAPEX roll-out efficiency assessments for existing operations. She also liaised with GSM vendors/suppliers on network support issues.

As Chief Technical Officer for MTN (Zambia) she provided the strategic direction for the technical department in the region, while ensuring its role as a value adding support element, aligned to the objectives of MTN Zambia's core objectives.

In addition to managing 60 staff members and all technical aspects of billing, revenue assurance and business risk mitigation, she was also accountable for network quality and service level management for IT and GSM networks.

Ngwenya officially started work on 11 June. "We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Beverly to Sentech. We, at Sentech, are excited and look forward to her contributions that will no doubt assist in taking the company from strength to strength," says Sentech's Corporate Communications Head, Dr Pranill Ramchander.
