Shift in B2B, says Oracle

Oracle has announced three new products to be implemented atop its OracleExchange platform and e-business suite. The vendor claims these products will improve the degree of collaboration between suppliers, product developers and logistics players.

The move is in line with its predictions that business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce will be more about collaboration than transactions this year.

Jeremy Burton, senior VP, Worldwide Marketing, described the theme as being about information exchange. Burton made what he called Oracle`s biggest B2B product announcement for some time, during a Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) press conference call.

He cited the previous year`s troubles as impetus in the need for such a shift. "When you look at how the market has shaped up over the last six to 12 months, you can see that even the big marketplaces [such as Ariba and Commerce One] have run into problems."

The new collaborative products are Product Development Exchange (PDX), Supply Chain Exchange (SCX) and Transportation Exchange. Layered atop the Oracle E-business Suite, Burton said these products allow users to publish information to the OracleExchange, making it available to suppliers and partners.

Sergio Giacoletto, executive VP, Oracle EMEA, said there were already several European customers interested in PDX and SCX, which are both immediately available. Transportation Exchange will be released around April.

"There has been positive movement from the vast majority of European companies. This is the first time that we see new technology implemented in Europe with no more than a three month [lag behind] the US," said Giacoletto.
