Africa`s first man in space, Mark Shuttleworth, is also the wealthiest person under the age of 30 in Britain, according to UK newspaper The Mail on Sunday.
The newspaper`s list of the 300 wealthiest people has the IT billionaire, worth a reported lb165 million (R2.1 billion), as the 193rd wealthiest person in Britain, but he is by far the richest under the age of 30. Shuttleworth squeaks onto that list as he is 29.
The Mail on Sunday`s criteria for the list were that individuals had to have a British passport, they had to spend most of their time in Britain and must have invested a large portion of their wealth in Britain.
Last year Shuttleworth handed over R178 million to blast his way into space aboard the Russian Soyuz capsule. He sold his Cape Town IT company several years ago for a total of R3.5 billion.
According to the list, pop star Robbie Williams (29) was the second richest person under 30 with lb58 million, while Manchester United soccer star David Beckham (27) and his wife Victoria (28) were fourth with lb48 million.
Prince Harry and Prince William were ninth and 10th with lb25 million and lb23 million respectively.
The richest man in Britain is Hans Rausing from Sweden, owner of packaging conglomerate TetraPak. He is estimated to be worth lb6.2 billion.
