Organisations can save more than 40% on communications costs by utilising unified communications (UC), says Siemens. The IT solutions company has teamed up with Microsoft to deliver a UC solution that it hopes will help it gather more high-end customers.
“With the economic crisis and unstable energy prices, corporations are taking a hard look at cutting costs, as well as their carbon emissions,” says Siemens IT Solutions and Services CEO Zunaid Mayet. “However, organisations need an ability to transform ideas into value to maintain their competitive advantage.”
A statement from Siemens says UC is an architecture approach to collaboration and communication across various media, including desktops, business and office applications, fixed and mobile voice.
“The solution that we and Microsoft created was customer-driven, because our clients expect us to be continuously innovative,” explains Siemens IT solutions and services UCS product manager Felix Honigwachs. “With this UC solution, organisations can save on communication and travel costs, as well increase productivity.”
Using UC applications such as telepresence, instant messaging and videoconferencing, companies can eliminate the need for expensive business trips and off-site meetings, and also reduce carbon emissions emanating from all the travelling, says Honigwachs.
Siemens lists the Department of Labour and the South African Broadcasting Corporation as some of its clients. The company is aiming to attract more high-end customers in the private sector with this joint solution. At the same time, it is also open to supply UC solutions to government departments, he says.
“There are a number of savings which companies can make with UC and we are not closed to working with the public and private sector.”
