The Western Cape ICT community voted in six heavyweights as new Cape IT Initiative (CITI) board members following an election process that was open to all players in the province`s ICT industry.
The new representatives are Bolelang Rakeepile, account manager at CSC Computer Sciences SA; Greg Reis, MD of BSG Africa; Nkosinathi Chonco, group executive of group empowerment and corporate affairs at Metropolitan; Raven Naidoo, director of Radian; Livingstone Chilwane, programme director of strategic business development at SAP Africa; and Willem van Biljon, director of new business development at Mosaic Software.
The new members will help rejuvenate CITI`s board, which has experienced a number of resignations during the last year due to members` other work commitments. Board members do not receive remuneration.
According to CITI, the selection was done via a transparent voting process that will see the board for the first time equally comprise industry and government stakeholders. In total, 568 votes were received.
The remaining six board positions consist of one representative from the City of Cape Town, the IT sector SETA, Coalition of Higher Education, Black IT Forum, provincial government and the executive director of CITI, Masedi Molosiwa. The non-industry representatives will be made known at CITI`s AGM in June.
"The transparent voting process allowed the IT community to choose the leadership they believe are best positioned to assist in implementing CITI`s goals in the Western Cape," says CITI executive director Masedi Molosiwa.
"It was vital that business leaders and public stakeholders be represented on the board as this provides a balance of skills, knowledge and perspectives that will facilitate dynamic problem solving. We need to ensure we have the correct governance structures in place to provide CITI with the foundations that enable better strategy development and implementation."
According to Molosiwa, CITI - and its new board - has three main goals: "Enhancing development and collaboration in the ICT cluster, promoting the ICT industry, and making CITI the pre-eminent industry information source."
CITI is an independent, non-profit, development agency supporting the growth of the IT cluster of businesses in the Western Cape. The organisation is answerable to its paid-up members and IT businesses and stakeholders.
