South Africans have leapt aboard the national lottery bandwagon and are playing the Lotto game with gusto. Just over three months after the game`s launch, a local software company has come up with a program which it says will help predict numbers that have a better chance of winning the coveted cash prizes.
JMR Software, which develops applications for mainframe, client server and Internet-based technologies, released the Eazy Lottery system just over a month ago. Eazy Lottery records all previous winning numbers, helps to select numbers, records those that have been selected and matches them against the winning numbers each week.
"The system has been designed to help and facilitate the user to select numbers and print tickets which is especially useful if you want to enter a large number of entries every week," says Virgilio Peneda, director, JMR Software.
"For each weekly draw you can play many games; for example, you can play a set of numbers on a daily basis. For each game you can play many entries. The system makes it easy to play multiple entries on a regular basis and it keeps track of statistics from which useful reports are produced."
Peneda says the motivation behind developing this system stemmed from his own personal desire for a more efficient way to play the game. Based on similar systems originating in the US, the Eazy Lottery system is available for free download off the JMR Web site.
Once downloaded, the program is valid for a 30-day period, after which users will be required to register and pay. The authorisation code is provided once payment has been received and processed.
Despite the legal issues one might expect, Peneda confirms that but for a branding issue, national lottery operator Uthingo was rather relaxed about the software`s release. "We originally called it Eazy Lotto, and when we advertised it as such, we received a letter from them requesting us to change the name."
Peneda says that while the Lotto section of its Web site has received around 3 000 hits since the launch of Eazy Lottery, the company hasn`t yet received feedback from successful players of the Lotto game.
