Standard Bank gets group CIO

Big four Standard Bank has appointed a , at group level.

The company says Lars Gustavsson has been named group CIO for the Standard Bank Group, and will report to Peter Wharton-Hood, the group's deputy CEO.

Gustavsson was global CIO of ING Barings, the group CIO and then global head of services of ABN Amro. J"org Fischer is still the bank's local CIO.

Wharton-Hood says: “Lars brings with him years of experience in the corporate, business, personal and wealth businesses, as well as a detailed working perspective of the integration of information technology and operations.”

Standard Bank Group is a pan-African group trading as Stanbic Bank and Standard Bank in 17 countries in Africa and 16 countries outside of Africa, with an emerging markets focus.

The bank is listed on the JSE and claims to be the largest South African banking group ranked by assets and earnings. The group had total assets of over R1 339 billion at the end of last year, and staff of more than 50 000 worldwide.
